Last summer my family came all the way to Japan to see me. For my godmother, it was fairly easy, but I know it was due to her efforts in planning everything that actually resulted in my family here. The same for my godfather: had it not been for his support, I would have not been able to take care of my family to the extent that I did. Everything costs thousands upon thousands of dollars. But they simply said yes as we had dimsum one day and that was that. For me.
My mother had absolutely no money at all. And I don't think Japan was on her list of countries to go to. My sister is dreadfully petrified of planes and thinks we should simply travel by plane and boat. But for the fourteen hours of flight over here, all they could think about was that they were finally going to see me. I don't think the little one even vomited.
In two weeks, Ryan will be coming to visit me. Like my mother and sister, I don't think Japan was on his list of countries to go to. And if Catherine is dreadfully petrified of planes, Ryan has a genuine phobia againts them. And yet, at a moment's notice, he decided that he'll come and see me. I mean, he said that he would, but to me it was one of those promises that you weren't actually supposed to keep.
It's quite the thing to know that people will spend thousands of dollars or money that they don't have and face their fears in an instant just to see you. Little old me. For this I am honored and grateful.
